Gemological Properties- Turquoise is a mineral species which belongs to the Triclinic crystal system. The chemical composition is CuAl6(OH)8(PO4)4.4H2O. The color of Turquoise ranges from pale-green, blue-green, and rarely, fine blues, commonly shading within same specimen because of variations in compactness. Hues deepen with impregnation by waxes, oils, and plastics. Turquoise is opaque in appearance. It is a very abundant stone which is seen in cabochons, carvings and beads.
The refractive index is 1.62 and offers a specific gravity of 2.6-2.9. The hardness is fairly soft, 4 or so on the Moes Scale of Hardness.
